Gawker hates israel because their main demo is hipsters and its very hip to be anti israel right now. It sucks because most of the people fighting for palestine in the US know nothing about whats going on over there

I used to live over there and in my jaded opinion, both sides have been fighting for so long and building up so much hate that neither side will be satisfied until they kill the last one of the other. It is now and always will be a no-win situation.

I have family over there right now. I know that Israel hasnt instigated a conflict since the 6 day war in 1967. Both sides are firing missiles at eachother, Hamas is kidnapping Israeli soldiers (its a requirement for all legal citizens of Israel below the age of 30 to serve in the military (men and women)), so that means Hamas is kidnapping any israeli between the ages of 18 and 30. My 10 year old cousin told us when we asked her what she does when the air raid sirens go off "When we have to go into the shelters I feel sad because I cant go play with my friends". 24/7 100% of Israel is at risk of rocket attack. There isnt one square inch of the very small state (about the size of road island) that isnt in firing range.

She and her family lived in Tel Aviv since she was born, but moved to LA last year. They were on vacation in Israel to see their friends when this started, their basically stuck there now

I was there during the first gulf war when they were shooting down the Scuds with the Patriot missiles the US supplied. one of the things we would do to kill time was go out looking for scud scraps. It is amazing to see how far that technology has come. But yes, I agree with you. They will stop firing back once this stops, but the ground incursions will probably not be done until Israel is satisfied they've gotten a hold of each and every person responsible for firing those rockets.

Also Technically Palestine never existed. Before WWII there was a british territory known as the palestinian territory that extended mostly over modern day israel and some into modern day syria and jordan. After the war Israel worked out a deal with the british to acquire a portion of the territory and the remaining bits were given back to syria and jordan. Modern day palestinians are the descendants of the inhabitants of that territory. But even before Israel existed, there were established Jewish colonies in the Palestinian territory, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran. So Jews have always been in that area.

If you are from that part of the world, SoCal really makes sense as a place to relocate to. The climate is VERY similar. Tel-Aviv is a nice place, I used to live just outside of it on a little kibbutz near Petach Tikva.

It seems justice is defined by the victor. I can't see anyway for either side to calm down without first wiping the slate clean, and I'm 100% sure neither side is interested in that because both side are convinced that they are right.

I learned how to read it only because my lunch break came at the same time as Hebrew Sesame Street...I learned a bit of spoken Arabic because I spent a lot of time doing farm work, and that's mostly who was out there doing it. When I watch the news Ill still recognize it when I hear it.
